Miss Jackson’s
Utica Square / Tulsa
Founded in 1910, Miss Jackson’s is one of the few remaining privately owned single-unit stores offering a full range of women’s fine apparel, accessory, cosmetic, and gift collections. The design challenge of this current 34,700-square-foot, two-level renovation was to introduce a cost-effective and updated format for the entire store. The goal was to create a more modern store design while blending it with a fresh, relaxed contemporary style, and to preserve its strong historical heritage and differentiation from traditional retail malls. We combined the disciplines of architecture, interior design, and lighting to promote the concept for this store. The resulting “modernized” neo-classical look instantly communicates the Miss Jackson’s commitment to service and luxurious style.
The organizing principle of the modified floor plan is an ordered environment created by using much of the existing architecture and architectural elements. We designed more open and inviting areas by using a new, unified palette of color, material, and finishes for a lighter and warmer overall hue. This design was accomplished through the combination of neutral wall and trim colors and textures, along with accents of metallic-stained sycamore and grit-blast mirror. Subtle color accents, stone flooring, textured wall coverings, mosaic wall tile, and fabric complete the additional finish selections. An eclectic mix of antique furniture, chandeliers, and artwork—combined with contemporary lighting, upholstered furniture, and exclusively designed carpets and color area rugs—defines and reinforces the familiar and residential feeling of the store.
In the process, we realigned merchandise categories and all-new showcases in cosmetics, adding luxury treatment rooms, and a “play station” helped to transform the main floor. Walls were removed on the second floor to open up designer apparel and add a newer, more contemporary feel. The designer jewelry and accessory areas were redesigned, and the “Presentation Rooms” were completely renovated with more comfortable lounge seating to make salon selling a more relaxed experience. The result is a store that has transitional appeal to a wide range of young and older customers who seek finer things for their wardrobes and homes.
